Sewing Expo Part 1 (Friday Foto Fun #5)

Original Sewing Expo started in Minneapolis yesterday!  I took this opportunity to take a few classes outside of my wheelhouse since it has more general sewing offerings than just quilting.  The Sewing Expo continues through this weekend, so this is just part 1 and a short recap of the classes I took yesterday.  I took a Rose Star Topper class from Debby Kratovil.  This uses Y-seams to sew the kites together.  It's always great to learn a difficult technique from multiple people to figure out what works for you.  I think I finally have the hang of them!

I was also able to get the entire topper done in class!  I had precut some of my fabric before getting to class and only had to trim a few pieces to get the kites once I got there. Do you like my radioactive look?  I tried to get the coloring such that it was a radioactive symbol in the middle surrounded by an explosion!

I also took a Serger class from Kathy Ruddy.  We got to use the awesome Juki machine above that just worked so well.  It was amazing!  I've owned a serger for a while now, but I can't get the tension right to save my life, so I thought this class could help me!  We did lots of tension samples to see what each tension number meant for that thread and it was so incredibly helpful!

I came home and tried to adjust my tension on my machine. Although I got close, I think I actually have a timing issue because it doesn't stay consistent, so frustrating!  I'm very tempted to buy the Juki at the amazing show price, but do I really need a(nother) serger?  What do you use a serger for?

I've been super hard at work on my next pattern, PBQ106 that will be headed to the longarmer soon.  I am also hoping to get PBQ105 to my pattern testers by the end of the weekend.  If you have some spare time in the next week and would like to pattern test for me, leave a comment below!  I'm hoping to have the pattern released by the end of this month, so I'm running out of time! Yikes!

I'm back at the Sewing Expo today for some more classes and hopefully winning one of the fabulous door prizes they are giving away!

I hope you have a productive week!
