January Color Challenge Block!

Happy New Year everyone! Let's kick this year off with this Monthly Color Challenge.  This month's color is RED!  If you want more details on the challenge read about it here.

Jen from Patterns by Jen designed a block that can be made in 6" and 12" finished.  I opted to make all the blocks 12" to match the blocks I designed.  You can get Jen's block pattern from her blog here.

The goal of the challenge is to have an entire block or project made from that month's color.

So I am designing a sample block each month for this challenge.  My block this month is a beginner friendly one to start off the year!  At the end of the year I'll give setting instructions for a 12 block and a 24 block quilt.  For my block I used the same 2 reds, a dark and bright red as Jen did in her block.

Remember to be entered in the giveaway this month, you will need to post your block or project on Jen's blog during the last week of the month.  No need to worry, I'll be posting a reminder to link up closer to that time.  The giveaway this month is a pack of Artisan Spirit Shimmer Strips sponsored by Northcott.  The strips are jelly roll style strips at 2.5" wide.

Don't forget to check out the other bloggers who are participating in this challenge to check out their projects and blocks! I can't wait to see what they are up to as well!

The print with the triangles is great! I like the simplicity of your block design and I’m looking forward to seeing it all come together. Thank you for joining in the fun!

This will be fun to watch, may do some as it goes along! I love the design of your block, simple yet interesting. I look forward to seeing them all!

I feel like I tend to over complicate my designs, so I made an effort for this first block to simplify! I love how it turned out. 🙂 It’s definitely a challenge where you can pop in and out as you want.

What a great block! Thanks so much!

Your block is great! Very beginner friendly and yet has lots of character! I might have to end up making all of the extra blocks too!

I can’t wait to see the blocks if you decide to make the extra ones! I figured at the end of the year I’ll be able to make a pretty big quilt with all the blocks!

  6. I like how you are integrating your blocks with Jen’s to give a quilt that uses both. What a great idea.

Thanks!!! I really am all for larger usable quilts and 12 blocks is just not enough 🙂
