Fall Into A QAL Block 9!
Today's the day Block 9 is released! What is fall without a Turkey! Karen from Tu-Na Quilts designed this super cute turkey! There are a lot of pieces in this turkey, so read on to learn some fun tips and tricks on working with blocks with lots of pieces!
My block is made of all Moda Grunge fabrics. I cut all the different pieces and kept the pieces grouped by color. There are so many colors and so many pieces in the block, be careful you don't miss one.
Here are my top tips!
- Use a design board to be able to move the pieces around without losing any of them.
- For blocks that are a grid construction, like this one, I will use web piecing to make sure I don't lose any of my pieces. If you haven't tried web piecing before, check out my tutorial here.
- To give you a little taste of what it'll look like with web piecing, here are the rows all joined together. The next step is to iron the seams in opposite directions and sew the rows together.
Good luck on your block! I can't wait to see it!
We are 75% done with the quilt along! Do you love your blocks as much as I love mine?

Your turkey is really nice. I love Grunge fabrics. They add so much interest and depth. Great job.
One word: ADORABLE!!
It is fun to see the webbed version. I do love when I do it, but sometimes find the pressing to be annoying. I have thought to maybe kepp the first and last columns attched and the others free to press….someday maybe I’ll remember and try it!
Well I learned something new: webbed piecing! I am going to use this technique when I put mine together. I have a Strip Stick which should make the pressing a bit easier.
Every month, I enjoy seeing how perfect your grunge choices are for the new block. This turkey is singing! I web stitch practically everything – I learned it with blocks with Eleanor Burns probably nearly 40 years ago and figured if it worked for blocks, it would work for block parts! It’s going to keep me sane with this block!
Great turkey block Sherry! I love how your quilt is coming together. 3/4 through the QAL! That is hard for me to believe 😋
Awesome tip on web piecing, I wish I had thought of it! I will review your tutorial for next time I should use it.
Your blocks are super cute, Sherry!
