#365DaysOfArtPBQChallenge Week 41, Exercises 281-287

Week 41 of the 365 Days Of Art Challenge!  The link up at the bottom of the post will be open all year so be sure to check back to see what other fellow creatives have made with this week's exercises.  Read more about the challenge and catch up on all the previous weeks!

Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!

#281 Complete a one-minute drawing today.  Set a timer, choose an object and spend a minute drawing it. Using a pencil, aim to get as much of the object drawn as possible. I decided to draw Big Ben!  I didn't quite get the clock hands on the tower before the timer went off. It was really fun to see just how fast you need to draw to get the picture finished.  Big Ben is on one of the artistic photographs that I had purchased in London several years ago.

#282 What is in the jars? Pickles? Fruit? Insects? What would you store in these jars?  This was harder than it looks to figure out what to draw!  The top left one was printed in the book, so going left to right then top to bottom the jars are as follows:  marbles, oranges, candy, goldfish in water, pickles, sand art, cotton balls, bobby pins, and a butterfly!

#283 Color In. This exercise is similar to ones I've completed earlier in the book.  I used watercolor and tried to get different shades of each color I used with changing the ratio of color to the water. I think these exercises really show that the detail in the overall swatch of color is what really makes the designs.

#284 Using a big paintbrush, fill the page with painted strokes.  The top color was printed in the book and I added the other swatches below!  I loved working with a big fat paintbrush, but it definitely would be hard to do detailed work with it!

#285 You can use your pencil and thumb to measure proportions. So I'm still not a fan of this.  I think using my pencil and thumb to measure proportions worked... kinda.  I had a friend that was over and so graciously allowed me to attempt to draw her.  I still think it looks off, but I'm not quite sure what to fix. She was in a pretty bulky jacket and girls skinny jeans.   Maybe that's why the proportions are thrown off a bit, who knows!

#286 Choose an object or see if someone will sit still for you.  Take a pencil in both your left and right hands.  Start looking at and drawing the object (or person), keeping both pencils moving at the same time.  The left hand should work down the left side of the object, and the right hand down the right side.  This is a great exercise for your brain.  I really liked this exercise even though it was so very difficult for my brain!  I decided to draw my TV entertainment stand with the TV on it.  My left hand's lines are really shaky and wobbly.  I really did try to concentrate on getting my left hand lines straighter, but it's so difficult with your non-dominant hand!

#287 Add in the sky, sea, and beach.  Perhaps there are people on the beach.  Well you know my hatred of drawing people, so instead I drew a beach umbrella and a beach ball!  I also drew the sky as a sunset/sunrise because I couldn't figure out how to get it not to blend in with the water!

Now that we've all had a good chuckle and/or grimace, I encourage you to join in the fun and expand your creative horizons too!
