Cozy Cabin: Log Cabin Challenge!

This month's Island Batik Challenge is to create a quilt that incorporates log cabins or a twist on log cabins.  The fabrics featured in this post were given to me by Island Batik.  I must admit that I have never made a quilt with log cabins as I have previously found them to not be that exciting (*ducks from the firing squad*).  I have been toying with a modified log cabin that varies the widths of the fabric, and I came up with this beauty!

I haven't made a classic red and white quilt yet either.  I used Red from the Check It Out fabric line and Sprinkles for my white.  I think the fabric choices look superb with the design.  After I created all the blocks, I was playing with the layout and the engineering brain of mine wouldn't let me do a random chaotic layout.  Must be orderly and must have a structure... one of these days I'll break the mold.

This was the very first time that I've tried any wool batting too.  I used Hobbs Tuscany Collection and I LOVE the finished product.  However, I was a bit confused on why I couldn't really iron the batting directly like cotton batting.  I felt like my iron got stuck... does anyone know the reason for this?  Or was this just a rookie mistake since I've never used wool before?

Look at how poofy the quilt turns out with the wool batting.  I think this is definitely something I need to use more often!  I did a simple straight line grid with Aurifil thread (my thread of choice!).

No outside photos with this quilt since we had a blizzard yesterday and snow/ice is EVERYWHERE!  The pretty phase of snow has come and left, now it's just ugly.  Hopefully, it melts soon!

The last bit of news, my quilt tops for spring/summer 2019 Island Batik catalog are off to the longarm today!  I spent most of the holiday sewing up a storm!  I love my experience as an ambassador, and ambassador applications for 2019 are still open until December 7th!

Here's where I need your help:  Have you seen this pattern before or should I write a fun tutorial or pattern for it?
