Aurifil Artisan 2019! (Friday Foto Fun #89)
Happy Friday!!! Today I'm sharing my very first Aurifil Artisan Challenge! There are challenges each month but not all the artisans are required to participate every month. There is a wrap-up post on the last Sunday of each month on the Aurifil Auribuzz blog! This month the challenge was to create something with the welcome package!
In case you missed it, here's what Aurifil sent me in the welcome package! I can't wait to try out all the different thread weights in different projects!
I decided I wanted to do a little memento mini quilt about being an artisan this year. I don't have the best hand lettering but I used a water erasable marker and drew "Aurifil Artisan 2019" and used different thread weight to quilt over it.
All in all, I used 5 different thread colors in 12wt, 28wt, 40wt, and 50wt. I even remembered that I needed to change to a larger needle when I was using the thicker thread. Just kidding, I just realized I could no longer thread the needle and had to move up a size! At least it was a self-correcting issue.
This piece might be one of the last things I free motion quilt on my Juki since my longarm arrives today! Here's a better photo of the quilting since the texture doesn't quite show in the full-on photo.
I loved the switchback motif in yellow, but since it was my first time using this motif, there was a bit of a learning curve on how not to get stuck near the inside of the quilt. I do think it turned out quite lovely. I can't wait to share more of the challenges in the upcoming months!

Sherry that is just the perfect piece for this challenge! You created a memory piece that is fantastic. I am still struggling about what to make for July IB challenge.
That turned out wonderfully. Have fun with the longarm…I’m a little jealous ☺
