Holiday Gifts Challenge! (Friday Foto Fun #106)
Happy Holidays! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! This post is a bit out of order, but I couldn't post it early due to the fact that these were actually Christmas gifts! This month the Aurifil Artisan Challenge was to create some holiday gifts! I picked trivets! Around the Bobbin has these great kits to make Trivets and also sells refills to make more! The insert is made of silicone with an orange peel pattern.
I ended up making 2 identical trivets with some cute fun fabric that I had in my stash and I used Aurifil 2024 50wt for ALL of the sewing. It sewed through the silicone fantastically! I thought the construction was super clever to make the borders around the silicone piece first.
The backing of the trivet is just a quilted piece with batting and muslin or white fabric. I love using Aurifil for this because I machine quilt with 50wt as well so I didn't have to do any thread changes!
Next is to baste both pieces together and add the binding! I used a traditional way of binding and joined the ends with diagonal seams (read my binding tutorial here with no extra notions!). Voila! Beautiful trivets ready to be used in the kitchen! I definitely want to make more of these to for my own kitchen!
Have you made trivets before? What do you think?

I don’t think I would have thought of making fabric trivets, but look how pretty they are. I have a little collection as I am taken by how interesting they can be. Thanks for sharing this.
I love the trivets and what a fun present! I have some waiting to be used – adding this to the growing 2020 list!
These are great! Love the added silicone portion in the center!
