QAL by the Sea Block 9!
Block 9 is released today, officially starting the last segment of the QAL! Karen from Tu-Na Quilts is this week's designer. Be sure to bookmark my quick links page so you have easy access to all the blocks and hosts! You can also find the quick links page by clicking the button on the right side of my page.
I used some pretty standard colors for this block, but I didn't have any ric rac or ribbon for the mast flag. Looking at my block, I wish I had at least put the mast flag on my boat since it looks a little boring in my opinion. Hopefully, you find something you can use.
Here are my top tips:
For the flags, before turning them, cut the tips off the flag to reduce bulk. Be sure not to cut the seams! I used a Clover turning tool to get my flag point.
Since this piece had tiny pieces, be sure to check your seams. But Karen also has you square the block up at the end so it's a bit more forgiving!
I also didn't feel like having embroidery on my block so I used Tulip Fabric markers to mark the rope. It was a quick and easy way to finish up the block!
Get the pattern from Karen's blog post here.
Don't forget we are doing prizes by segment and region this time! To be eligible for Segment Prizes, you must complete all the blocks in the segment. I think you block is waiting for something to cross into your path and embellish it! and if not, it is perfectly gorgeous as it is.
Your block is beautiful, Sherry. I especially like the Grunge fabrics you chose. They add so much depth to the design.
