Just My Type Holiday Gifts!
Super fast and easy holiday gifts are Just My Type! I had the pleasure of using Tammy Silver of Tamarinis's brand new line, Just My Type for some beautiful coasters! Just My Type is available in stores now!
I was given 4 fat quarters and cut 5" squares. Each coaster takes five 5" squares so I was able to make 9 coasters. I could have made a tenth but that would have required me to piece the last 2 squares to make it work. I have clipped my Twitch stream so you can watch me make a coaster. Skip ahead to about 10 minutes in to see the actual sewing part. I was thinking about trimming the video shorter, but with living streaming, I'm responding to chatters, and therefore some of my comments wouldn't have made sense cutting the video down. Overall, it took me about 90 minutes from ironing the fat quarters to finishing off the Odicoat on the base of all of the coasters! Remember I stream on Saturdays and you can always come and hang out, ask questions or sew along! Follow me on Twitch! You can also find the tutorial video on my YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe and hit the bell so you will be notified of future YouTube videos!
The video does not include when I applied the Odicoat on the bottoms of the coasters, but here are some top tips:
- Use a plastic card for applying to fabric like a hotel key or an old credit card.
- Use a thin layer consistent across the desired area.
- Scrape off the excess back into the container to be used in the future.
- Make sure that the previous layer is DRY before applying additional layers.
- My preference is 2 layers of Odicoat.
What other fun applications can you use Odicoat?

I almost ordered some Odicoat the other day, then decided to wait, which was a good thing, since from your description of how to apply, it wouldn’t have worked on this item. I would like to give it a try sometime, though!
You can actually treat the fabric PRIOR to sewing a project. You just lose the waterproofing where the needle sews through the fabric. But you can more Odicoat at the seam stitching to waterproof the holes that were just put in. 🙂
Your coasters are wonderful! I really love the Just My Type line.
