Fun Bobby Backpack (Friday Foto Fun #172)

Last Saturday, I streamed making the Fun Bobby Backpack by Sincerely Jen Patterns!  I didn't finish it because I didn't have the properly sized rivets to go through the straps to secure them which halted my progress.  Fortunately, I had rivets arriving this week for me to finish the rest of the bag off stream.

The interior of the bag has a slip pocket on one side and an interior zipper pocket on the other side.  As you can see, the lining is a bit slouchy and I'm not the biggest fan.  I hope with use the lining settles down.

The back of the bag has a zipper and you can see the purse feet I added from this angle.

Since I used vinyl, the straps ended up thick, hence the need for bigger rivets to secure the straps.  I also had to use LARGE strap sliders to accommodate the thickness of the vinyl.  Overall I think it turned out pretty!

Now, what did I think of the pattern?

  • The pattern was written clearly and I would definitely make it again with some modifications like using all quilting cotton or thinner faux leather/vinyl.
  • I also really dislike using foam.  The body of the bag is sew-in foam, but after using other interfacings, I'm not a fan of foam anymore!
  • As for the bag shape, I think the overall size is good, but it's still too wide for how tall it is.  I'm still on the hunt for the "perfect" backpack pattern!

What are your sewing plans this weekend?

I will be streaming tomorrow starting at 8am Mountain on my Twitch Channel and I'll be making another bag, most likely a remake of the Moonwake bag from Lavender & Twine.  I'm still collecting all the hardware to make sure I have everything BEFORE I start sewing this time!  Come hang out, chat, and sew!
