North Stars Owl Block
Say hello to Owen the Owl! This past Saturday I made my fifth block in the North Stars Quilt by Elizabeth Hartman!
Owen the Owl took me almost exactly 4 hours to complete! This was also the HARDEST block so far. The wings on the owl are made with stacked stitch and flip corners which makes all the errors stack. My wings ended up being slightly short and my seam allowances are hardly there in places. I will need to remember to quilt this a little more densely to make sure the seams don't pull apart during washing.
Since I have made enough blocks to sew together the first row of the quilt, I'm debating about starting the quilt top construction now versus all at the end. Do you make quilt tops as you go for block of the month quilts or all at the end?

I always wait to sew the blocks together until I am finished making all the blocks. It seems like I’m always rearranging blocks because of color. Besides that, rearranging gives me the sense that I made it and not just copied it from pattern. Cute owl!!
