Simple Plus Block Quilt (Friday Foto Fun #239)

A few weeks ago, I got a large fat 16th bundle of Tana Lawn Liberty fabric.  Since the fabric is wider than normal width of fabric, the fat 16ths are about 9"x13".  I got a rainbow bundle of 100 fat 16ths and I've added 10 additional prints to the bundle to make this epic quilt.

I picked a simple Plus Block to make from all of the different prints and have this vision to pair the prints to have each pair make 2 blocks.  One print will be the inside plus for one block and the background for the second block.  Therefore, with 110 prints, I should be able to make 110 blocks!  The final quilt will be 10 blocks by 11 blocks.  The next thing to determine was how big can I make the block? I need to be able to cut all of the sizes for the plus block from one of the fat 16ths.  It's helpful that these are bigger than normal, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to make the blocks an 8" finished block.  This epic quilt will end up being 80"x88" once I finish all 110 blocks.  We might be working on this quilt for the next several years.

After I made a few blocks, I realized that the busyness of the Liberty prints sometimes obscures the Plus Block design.  However, I'm going to go with it as I plan on having the Pluses create a gradient of color across the quilt.  Because Tana Lawn is so expensive and luxurious, I am making something with the small scraps that I have left over.  I think a scrappy panel of prints for a zippy bag or a scrappy larger panel for a pillow cover or something of that sort, but that is left to be determined when I have more color scraps.
