I'm at Walt Disney World this weekend to run in the Wine & Dine Race weekend! I am taking part in the two-course challenge, which means I'm running a 10K on Saturday and a Half Marathon on Sunday! Completion of both races earns me a Challenge medal! These medals have really fun colors and sometimes a movement mechanism and therefore you need to have some level of protection to not damage the medal. I decided that I wanted to make these cute Medal Holder pouches! They are padded pouches with 3 different sections, to hold up to 3 medals each.
I made them out of canvas, fusible fleece and some SF101. They were super easy to make and I followed a tutorial written by Kimber of Purple Dragon Fabrics. The tutorial is posted in her Purple Dragon Fabrics Facebook group, just search Medal Pouch and the post with all the tutorial images will come up.
There are 3 different pouches because runDisney also has a different challenge called Coast to Coast meaning if you run a 10mile race or longer in both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in the same calendar year you get a special medal! I plan on doing this early in January 2024, Marathon weekend in Walt Disney World followed by a Half Marathon in Disneyland. I'll be returning to Walt Disney World in February for the Princess race weekend with all 3 medals to take photos in front of the Magic Kingdom castle. But then I realized that I'll be running the two-course challenge for Princess weekend and will be earning another 3 medals, so that's pouch number 2 needed. Since these were so quick to make, I ended up making my sister a pouch because she's going to be running with me for the Coast to Coast.
Long story short, I'm doing a LOT of running over the next few months and I will do crazy things for really really really cute Mickey/Disney related medals. Wish me luck this weekend, it's going to be really warm comparatively to home and I have a lot of miles to cover!
