I Wish You a Merry QAL Block 6!
Block 6 is revealed! Sandra Healy of Sandra Healy Designs designed Block 6, Hanging Star Angel Block.
This block uses piecing for the background and applique for the stars and the angels. I ended up using a mixture of Moda Grunge and other metallic fabrics for this block.
Remember to cut the inside of the fusible to make your block less stiff! Once you have the block laid out, iron down all the pieces and stitch around the edges. I used a blanket stitch around all the stars and angel. It was a little tricky with all the overlay, but make sure you have the edges that are showing stitched down. The french knot for the eyes were much easier than I thought, and the graphic from Sandra's pattern is great! I can't wait to see everyone's creativity shiny through on this block!
Don’t forget to submit your completed block on Sandra's linky party, the Facebook Group Page, and/or on Instagram with #iwishyouamerryqal to be entered into each block’s prizes! One lucky person will win a small fat quarter bundle from the Blushing Blooms collection from Island Batik and a PDF pattern of their choice from Sandra Healy Designs.
The prize entry window goes from 12AM Eastern on September 26, 2017 until 11:59PM Eastern on October 9, 2017.
If you are just now joining us in the QAL, I have a quick links page to catch up on the blocks in this QAL and my associated blog posts. You can also get to that page at any time by clicking the I Wish You a Merry QAL button on the right sidebar.
The sponsors for the grand prize have also been announced. In order to be eligible for the grand prize, you must make a quilt top using all twelve of the QAL blocks by January 16th, 2018. Please note that all patterns are only free until the end of the QAL.
Happy Sewing! I can’t wait to see your blocks!

I love the contrast of her blond hair against those rich blues!
Thanks Becca <3
Love the colors in this block! Your angel contrasts so well, and she seems to be truly angelic. Wonderful job!
Thanks Jennifer <3
Love your block and the blues are really fun. Fun seeing the different prints you chose for the smaller blocks.
Thanks Kathleen – the prints were all used in Block 2! I’m trying to keep my pool of fabrics small so the final quilt matches! 🙂
Loving the blue patterns too and your blanket stitching looks perfect! 😇
Thanks Abbie… my blanket stitching was done very very slowly. 🙂
Your patience paid off ☺️
Your version looks great, Sherry! I’m looking forward to seeing your completed quilt top.
Thanks Sandra <3
She’s so cute! I love the swirly fabric for her dress.
Thanks Bobbi!!!
Great looking angel block! Is there a trick to machine stitching neatly around all those curvey edges?
Thanks Karen! I stitched really slow and watched where the needle was going to go down, so I could shift the fabric if necessary. <3
