Inspired Friday (Friday Foto Fun #28)
Typically I balance my weeks with secret sewing and shareable sewing. However this week, I did a LOT of secret sewing and very little (aka none) shareable sewing! I can't wait to be able to share some of the projects I have been working on with everyone in the (near-ish) future. I did want to share a new project that I've given myself. It shouldn't be a secret that I absolutely adore Barn Quilts and love their style. I ended up buying both Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement and Following the Barn Quilt Trail by Suzi Parron to learn more about this obsession of mine.
In the past, I have toyed around with designing some sort of quilt-along, but never got past the idea phase. My love of barn quilts has made this project a must for me to do. I am planning on making a quilt-along inspired by Barn Quilts. It may end up as a large sampler quilt or several mini quilts with options to make larger. I am still working through all the designs I want to utilize and what this would shape up to be. What option do you like, sampler quilt or multiple mini quilts?
As for timing for this quilt-along, you'll hear about it here first! I'm looking at getting this all designed and prepped so that it will be take place in early 2019! Yes, I know that's a long time away, but these things take a long time to set up, make, test, and put together.
As for other really fun things this month, I am the Queen of both of my beehives, and I've started to get blocks from my swarms! Here are the 4 blocks that I've received so far! I got to pick the pattern (Wanta Fanta Block), and I requested that the colors be vibrant and bright!
I was lucky enough to get into Modern Stitching Affair from the waitlist this year, and the event starts on my birthday, next Thursday! Happy Birthday to me, I can't wait!!

Well, you know I love barn quilts, having just finished painting my first one! A barn quilt SAL sounds great. I’m always ready to add to my mini quilt gallery. Hope you have a great birthday!!!
Cool bee block choice! I haven’t seen that one before. I’ll be watching with interest as your quilt-along takes shape. I think a sampler quilt would probably have wider appeal, and people can always convert a block into a mini if they want to.
I favor a mini quilt project.
Hi Sherry,
The timing on your barn quilts is just uncanny. We are going to be losing a lot of farms and farm land in our county due to a new manufacturing plant being built – over 2,000 acres. Not only does that make me sad to lose the farm land, but many of the barns have quilt designs on them. I was just thinking this week as I drive by them, soon to be demolished, that I need to stop and take photos of all of them. That is going on my to-do list for this weekend. I will watch to see what you come up with for us in 2019. I may just be able to join in! And Happy Birthday a little early!

Hi Roseanne
I made a quilt with a pattern similar to the Want a Fanta block. When I found it, it was referenced as a kaleidoscope block (not the kind where you cut 8 fabrics from the same spot). It was a lot of fun. If I could figure out how to send you a pic or a link on my blog I would. Its #12 “Tula Go Round”.
I like your variation too. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers
Terry
Oh my gosh Sherry, a barn QAL is an awesome idea! I love barns ❤️ and barn quilts too and get to see them here in PA. I love either but minis are popular and I like that you can have several finished projects at the end.
I like the idea of a barn block sampler quilt. As Nancy@Graceandpeace noted, a sampler could easily be converted to mini quilts.
