Fall Into A QAL Block 3!
Today's the day! Block 3 is released, and I am so excited to share one of the blocks I designed for the quilt along. This is the Bonfire block! Fall is my favorite season, and I love spending time with friends around a bonfire! I hope you enjoy this block!
My block is made of all Moda Grunge fabrics. The block is constructed in two parts, the appliqued center and the pieced border.
I used Heat and Bond Lite for my fusible adhesive. Trace all of the applique pieces on the paper side and remember to cut out the centers to make the block less bulky. Using paper scissors, rough cut the applique pieces apart. It also helps to label the piece on the inside of the pieces so you know which one it is after you've cut everything out. Following manufacturer's instructions, fuse the adhesive to the back of the fabric. I used Karen Kay Buckley Perfect Scissors to carefully cut out each piece. The scissors are serrated, so it gives a really clean cut.
Next, take your center square and lay out the logs on the center of the block first. I have the tips of the logs touch in the middle.
Next, I add the flame on the left, right, then center. I find it easier to fuse the center of the flame onto the larger flame first (in my block, the orange piece to the yellow piece).
I put the ends of the logs on last.
Once you have everything fused down, I used a blanket stitch around all of the raw edges. If your machine does not have a blanket stitch, use a zigzag stitch or a straight stitch close to the edge. After all the pieces are secured down, trim the block centering the bonfire.
Next, make your flying geese border.
Sew the block together, and you are done! YAY! I hope you enjoyed this block!
Don't forget to submit your completed block in my linky party below, the Facebook Group Page, and/or on Instagram with #FallIntoAQAL to be entered into this week's prizes! One lucky person will win a PDF pattern donated Powered by Quilting (that's me!), a seam-fix double-sided seam ripper, and an Omnigrid 4-1/2" square ruler. The winner will be randomly selected from those who post photos of their completed blocks by the deadline. Although creativity is encouraged, the block must follow the design for this two-week period. You must be 18 to enter.
This block also comes with a special prize! Until June 13, my newest pattern, Around the Square, is on sale for $5.99 (no code needed) and all QAL participants will receive a 25% discount on my other patterns using coupon code FALLINTOAQAL25 until June 25! The coupon code is valid in my Etsy and Payhip shops only. Around the Square will be included in the 25% off after June 13.
The prize entry window starting from 12AM Eastern on June 11, 2018, until 11:59PM Eastern on June 25, 2018.
As a reminder, I have a quick links page to catch up on the blocks in this QAL and my associated blog posts. You can also get to that page by clicking the Fall Into A QAL button on the right sidebar.
The sponsors for the grand prize have also been announced. In order to be eligible for the grand prize, you must make a quilt top using all twelve of the QAL blocks by November 13th, 2018. Please note that all patterns are only free until the end of the QAL.

Hi Sherry,
Really nice block – perfect for fall or late summer. Just what you have time for though, not so much. I hope all is going well! Sending easy selling vibes your way.
Happy Tuesday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Thank you for such a fun block! I really enjoyed making it. I have so many happy memories around a fire.
This block was so fun to make. I am thinking about appliquéing a marshmallow on a stick. Fun pattern and well-written.
Oh, I updated my post to include your pattern sale info. Not sure how I missed that. Hopefully, I’ll push a few interested quilters your way.
Love your block, Sherry, I can almost smell the wood smoke! It’s such a fun design and just perfect for Autumn.
What a great block – I am loving seeing all the diffrent flame fabric.
Congratulations on an awesome block design Sherry! I love making my Bonfire. 😃
