August Color Challenge Block!
It's the first day of August, so it's a new color for the Monthly Color Challenge! This month's color is YELLOW-ORANGE! If you want more details on the challenge, read about it here. I apparently did not have many yellow-orange fabrics, and they all turned out to be around the same shade. Whoops. Lesson learned, go for more variety in terms of value.
Jen from Patterns by Jen designed a block that can be made in 6" and 12" finished. I opted to make all the blocks 12" to match the blocks I designed. You can get Jen's block pattern from her blog here.
The goal of the challenge is to have an entire block or project made from that month's color.
I am designing a sample block each month for this challenge. My block this month uses 3 different shades of yellow-orange! Or rather in my case 3 different fabrics of yellow-orange, but all the same value of color. At the end of the year, I'll give setting instructions for a 12 block and a 24 block quilt. There is a possibility of a 36 block quilt too!
If you use this block for an entire yellow-orange quilt, here's what it would look like!
Now that we are over halfway through, I figured I'd share the 12 block layout! What do you guys think?! It'll finish at 72" square.

Love your quilt mock-ups for the layout of the August block and the entire quilt!!!
I love the way the mockup looks. It will be a gorgeous quilt. Colors are always tricky and the differentiation can only be made with the other fabrics you are using – so you need to have “picked” the orange/yellow/orange-yellow at the same time in order to get the difference. In the quilt, no one will notice! That block looks fab in the quilt.
