Fall Into A QAL Block 12!
Today's the day Block 12 is released and with that, I've also chosen the final setting for my quilt! Vanda at Quilting With Vanda designed this cute Owl block!
My block is made of all Moda Grunge fabrics. I decided to pick some fun colors for my Owl!
Here are my top tips!
- Use a lightbox to trace the applique shapes! It makes it so much easier. Also, nest your shapes so you don't use as much adhesive. I used Heat n Bond Lite for my applique adhesive.
- This is what my applique pieces looked like prior to cutting them out. I used my handy Karen Buckley scissors since the serrated blades make cutting applique very precise.
- Make sure to position all of your pieces PRIOR to ironing everything down!
- Use a blanket stitch or a zigzag stitch to secure the raw edges!
- Center your owl and use a 12.5" square ruler to square up your block!
Good luck on your block! I can't wait to see it!
Don't forget to submit your completed block on Vanda's linky party, Facebook Group Page, and/or on Instagram with #FallIntoAQAL to also be entered into this week's prizes! One lucky person will win 2 Dritz Sewing Notions, a Seam-Fix™ Double-Sided Seam Ripper and Heat Erase Marking Pens; 5 pack, and a PDF pattern of your choice from Quilting with Vanda.
The prize entry window starting from 12AM Eastern on October 16, 2018, until 11:59PM Eastern on October 29, 2018.
As a reminder, I have a quick links page to catch up on the blocks in this QAL and my associated blog posts. You can also get to that page by clicking the Fall Into A QAL button on the right sidebar.

Your blocks is wonderful! I expected that with the grunge. I’ll be sad there are no more grunge blocks to come see. =) Thanks for the tips and the inspiration.
Your Moda Grunge blocks are sew cute. I need to use more Grunge. I’ve only got one or two pieces. But you’ve been making me think that I need to get some more. Great tips. I, too, nested my pieces but not the eyes; I didn’t think of them. I keep all my scraps, too, for using with small pieces. It’s kind of like putting a puzzle together to find the right sizes.
