Delphinium Hobo Bag! (Friday Foto Fun #164)
Happy Friday everyone! I am so excited to share my finished Dephinium Hobo bag that I made this past Saturday on my Twitch channel! The bag took me about 5 hours to cut and sew all the different pieces, but I realized at the start of the stream that I didn't have the 1.5" swivel hooks I needed for the strap so I made those later in the week. I made the larger size because I wanted to use the Slytherin panel in the front of the bag.
I can not express how excited I was to make this bag! I preordered the fabric in November and it finally came! I added a magnetic snap to the front slip pocket instead of dividing it into two like the pattern because I didn't want to stitch through the panel. The back of the bag has 2 zipper pockets that run the length of the bag.
I used some custom zipper pulls for this bag too! I have the Slytherin House crest and the dark mark. In case you were wondering, yes, I'm in the Slytherin House and very proud of it.
The interior of the bag has a slip pocket on one side and an interior zipper pocket on the other side where the bag was turned. The top is held together by 2 magnetic snaps.
Now, what did I think of the pattern?
- The pattern stitched together pretty easily, but the back panel with the double zippers was weirdly written. Aka I didn't understand the pattern, but I knew what she was trying to have us do so it turned out okay in the end. But it was just weird.
- I also did not use any piping in this bag. The jury is still out if I like piping so for the near future at least, I am not using it.
- The Grommets that I had were the wrong size, too big, and I had to figure out how to make it work. It seems I got lucky and didn't put them too far down the bag where the gate ring still went through the grommets, but it's definitely a tight fit.
- I could have made the gusset in one piece rather than in two pieces that were sewn together. I'm not sure why she had us do that since it was still smaller than a normal width of fabric.
- Overall, a great design, and I would make this bag again.
Bag Details:
- Pattern: Dephinium Hobo Bag by Blue Calla Patterns
- Fabric: Custom Harry Potter and black faux leather from Sallie Tomato
- Hardware: 1.5" swivel hooks, 8mm rivets, grommets that were too big and gate rings.

What are your sewing plans this weekend? I'll be streaming on Saturday on my Twitch channel starting at 8am Mountain working on my North Stars blocks. I haven't gotten the fabric in for the eyes of the animals, so I plan on sewing as much as I can without the eyes. It should be a good time!
