How Do You Display Wall Hanging Quilts?!
I got some Quilter's Perfect Stick Klips from a Sew Sampler box a few months ago, and I finally decided to try them out. As it turned out, I loved being able to clip wall hanging quilts and change them up. The Quilter's Perfect Stick Klips are a large klip with a sticky strip. They are pretty heavy duty, and the Sew Sampler said they can hold 5-6 pounds! However, I have some small mini-quilts that wouldn't need such heavy duty clips so I set out to make some of my own.
Using the standard sized Clover Wonder Clips and Small 3M poster strips, I made my own smaller version! Here are some photos of my wall hanging collection!
What do you need to make your own small wall hanging clips?
- Clover Wonder Clips - I used 2 for each quilt. The larger or heavier the quilt is, the more you should use.
- 3M Poster Strips - These are going to be wider than the standard Clover Wonder Clip. Use a scissors to trim the excess that goes beyond the Wonder Clip.
Notice the size difference between the Klip (clear) and the Wonder Clips (red). I would still recommend purchasing the Quilter's Perfect Stick Klips for the larger quilts, but for small quilts, the Wonder Clips do the job great!
Installation instructions regardless of the type you use: Always put the clip onto the poster strip, then the clip to the wall. Press firming when applying the clip to the strip and the clip to the wall.
Enjoy your hole-free, damage-free way of displaying your quilts!

What a great idea! I use 3M hooks all over my studio and never thought to secure the tabs to a wonder clip for this purpose. Perfect solution!
Pam – what do you use the hooks for? Someone else mentioned they used hooks but I’m not sure what I would use them for?
Oh gosh – everything! Patterns, scissors, acrylic rulers, clipboards (I LOVE clipboards!), power cord neatness…the list goes on!
I got those Sticky Klips too and I have one mini hanging on my quilt room wall. I decided to start with one and see if there’s damage to the wall once I take the quilt down. I hadn’t thought of using the wonder clip/poster strips. What a great idea!
I actually tried the Sticky Klips to check for damage too… The megaman on is on Sticky Klips. I’ve used the 3M poster ones enough to know that they don’t cause damage for me and figured I could try it on the smaller versions 😀
These are great! I have quite a bit of hanging to do in my new space, so it will be so much fun to try these.
I had a ton of minis that I hadn’t hung yet and I wanted a “cheaper” solution! What quilter doesn’t have a ton of wonder clips already?! 🙂 Good luck setting up your new place!
I use the Quilt Klips too! Although so far, when I try to hang a fairly big quilt it fell right down, but it’s great for smaller wallhanging size quilts! I love not having holes in my wall, too. Thanks for the tip on making your own quilt clips!
I am completely skeptical on the hanging ability of the clips past a certain size! The 5-6 pounds is what was printed on the Sew Sampler card when I got the Klips. But for minis – totally a low cost, low damage solution 🙂
I’ve been curious about the quilters clips, I’m glad you liked them! I used to sew a sleeve and put my quilts on a rod but I didn’t like them hanging off the wall. I found something called Quilt Hang Ups on Amazon and I love them. They work similar to a clip and I don’t have to sew sleeves on them anymore. I’ll definitely give the clips a try in the future!
Sleeves for minis I always felt like were a little excessive. I’ll have to look into the Quilt Hang Ups for the larger quilts. The clips are NOT for anything that significant weight, really only for minis and really small quilts! Let me know how they work out for you.
