#365DaysOfArtPBQChallenge Week24, Exercises 162-168
It's Week 24 of the 365 Days Of Art Challenge! And I am hitting the midway slump! Things that I've noticed... I like the art, but I tend to do exercises in groups rather than one a day. I also know people tend to not want to share art they do if they don't consider it good. I'm glad I'm able to laugh at myself while sharing because some of it is embarrassing. However, when I compare exercises from the beginning to this year till now, I know that I have improved.
If you haven't started yet, no worries! The link up at the bottom of the post will be open all year so be sure to check back to see what other fellow creatives have made with this week's exercises. Read more about the challenge and catch up on all the previous weeks!
Without further ado, here are my 7 for this week… the good, bad, and ugly!
#162 Fill a page with dads and their children. This is the first exercise I flat out did NOT want to do. Drawing people and make them tiny, no thanks. The colored parts on this page came as part of the book. I ended up making myself do this exercise and honestly, my people are a bit cartoony but much better than I originally had hoped for. Push yourself to try new things, you may surprise yourself!
#163 Create your own color wheel by adding in the colors. The inner layer should show a lighter shade of the outer layer. The blue-green color was printed with the book. I completed this exercise with colored pencils. Some of the sections I had to use 2 colors blended together. The inner layer I used my white color pencil to blend and light up the colored pencil. I think it worked out well.
#164 Use each square to experiment with pattern and mark making. This exercise was fun and I did it in two different parts. I filled in the colored portion on one day with my brush markers. The next day I came back with a black fine-liner to draw in the different patterns. I think this is something that I should practice with the quilt blocks and quilting. Planning out my quilting is typically the hardest part for me.
#165 Draw your hand. I'm so glad that this one was not draw the hand you are drawing with like exercise 68! It's so much easy to look at something and draw it. My fingers curve slightly to the left and right, but I think I ended up exaggerating the curves in this drawing.
#166 Draw the leaves blowing off the trees. More than anything, this exercise made me wish for fall. Summer is much too warm, and I miss my hoodie weather. This was made with colored pencils and a brown fine-liner for the details.
#167 Sit by an object. Draw it in four different ways. First use just a colored outline, then use blocks of color, then perhaps try a styled version. Finally combine all your drawings into a fourth image, choosing the elements you like from each of the three initial drawings. When I first read this exercise, I was not looking forward to doing this. I liked the idea of drawing a vase with flowers so I found a pot that I liked and started drawing. From top to bottom and left to right, I outlined in colored pencils, block colored in pencils, used watercolor, and then used watercolor and added pencils for accents and more color. I think the final image is pretty good! Click on the image to expand.
#168 Complete a 5-minute drawing today. Set a time, choose an object or a simple scene, and spend only five minutes drawing it. Using a pencil, aim to get as much drawn as possible. This simple scene is my bathroom at the angle I was drawing it in. I didn't quite get the 3D angle correct for the vanity, but I think for 5 minutes it's not awful!
Now that we've all had a good chuckle and/or grimace, I encourage you to join in the fun and expand your creative horizons too!

These look like fun! I am behind and I too take the chunk approach sometimes. Was thinking about getting back into it this week.
Oh, I don’t know, I think your dads w/ kids drawing is really adorable 🙂
