2018 Midyear Review (Friday Foto Fun #39)
Happy Friday! One week living in Missouri and I am still unpacking my sewing room. I thought this week would be a great time to do my 2018 Midyear Review. Yvonne from Quilting Jet Girl hosted the 2018 Planning Party last December and this is my midyear review.
Powered by Quilting Goals:
Release at least 4 full patterns this year, so approximately once a quarter.
- This is in addition to the 2018 Monthly Color Challenge blocks and any other QAL blocks I am designing.
- I am on track! I've released 2 patterns so far: Twisted Ladder and Around the Square. I have 2 more in the works for later this year!
Blog 3 times a week
- I'm doing it! Every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday! I haven't missed yet!
Complete every exercise in the 365 Days of Art Book. I even created a challenge to complete this!
- #365DaysOfArtPBQChallenge started in January.
- I am still keeping pace and learning so much about my artistic style. I have also learned if I wasn't doing this challenge I wouldn't share most of my pages since they are pretty terrible!
Submit a design to magazines/publication once a month.
- Well… once a month is probably not happening, but I have submitted to magazines and I have a quilt commissioned for a magazine later this year!
- I also have a quilt in the Island Batik Fall/Winter catalog!
Submit 3 quilts to QuiltCon 2019.
- Maybe this will happen… maybe not. We'll see.
Submit a quilt to the Minnesota State Fair.
- This is not going to happen anymore since I've moved!
Personal Sewing Goals:
Make an Ombre Gems quilt with Confetti fabric.
- I have started on this… I haven't gotten very far, but I have like 9-ish blocks complete and a lot of blocks halfway done. Chain piecing for the win on this quilt!
Make a Sew Together Bag (finally!).
- Really make more bags in general.
- I've made more bags, but I have yet to make a sew together bag. Maybe the back half of this year!
Sewing more fabric than I buy.
- Honestly, this is probably not going to happen, but I at least want to make a conscious effort to stop hoarding!
- What I said above… I'm trying! It's the thought that counts right?!
Intentional Free Motion Quilting practice on a regular basis.
- I bought all the materials to do this, but I haven't. I'm starting to think I had very aggressive goals!
Learn new techniques and add play into my sewing/quilting.
- This has been happening in my opinion. I've added a lot of play and learned a lot of different techniques like fabric weaving!
Personal Fitness Goals:
- Run/Walk 6+ miles a week. (2x a week for 3miles)
- Lift 2x a week.
- Yoga once a week.
Let's just say I'll restart these goals after we get settled in Kansas City. These definitely got put on the back burner as life got crazy!
Mental Goals:
- Be kind to myself.
- Understand that I am doing the best I can right now.
- Don't get caught up comparing myself to others.
I can proudly say I have gotten better at this one. My stress and anxiety have gone way down, however I'm hoping that's not just because we are FINALLY moved and the finish line is in sight!
All and all I think I'm doing okay with my goals. I probably made the goals a bit too aggressive, but that's okay. I'm hoping to get my sewing room completed this weekend and finally getting my machines unpacked! I miss sewing terribly.

I think you are doing great with your goals. There’s nothing wrong with setting the bar high and not making all the goals; learning what is too much to do is another part of life. In some ways, I probably made my goals too easy! 🙂
Welcome to Missouri!! You’re doing great on your goals! I’m hoping to get a chance to go through my own this week. I admit, I did laugh out loud at your “sew more fabric than you buy” goal. 😀 The struggle is real!!
Hi Sherry, those were pretty ambitious goals, and you’re doing very well. Congrats! Hope you get your sewing room unpacked soon 🙂
You are doing a great job with your goals. The move wasn’t in site when you made them, and that is huge! The struggle of less fabric is hard, especially with two large boxes shipped to you – but I don’t count that – do you?
