I Wish You A Merry QAL Block 7!
Block 7 is revealed! Can you guys believe we are on the back half of this awesome QAL? Block 7 is designed by Sandy Maxfield of Sandy Star Designs. The block combines piecing with a tiny bit of applique to create a Poinsettia block! The week is a doubleheader so check out this post for Block 8 (and there are separate prizes too)!
My fabric choices included Moda Grunge and a red accent fabric to have contrast for the different Poinsettia petals. You will want to press your seams OPEN to reduce bulk. I did press my seams to one side, but there were some adjustments I needed to do while sewing the block together.
I used the Moda Grunge Sunflower for the center. A little tip for blanket stitching the applique: you do not need to change your bobbin thread since it won't be shown! Also for all curves, you'll want to go very slow, rotating your piece as your go. You want to also keep watch of where the needle goes into the fabric to create a smooth curve.
Don’t forget to submit your completed block on Sandy's linky party, the Facebook Group Page, and/or on Instagram with #iwishyouamerryqal to be entered into each block’s prizes! One lucky person will win a 4"x5" Quilt Block-Anthology signed by Carol Hopkins and a PDF pattern of their choice from Jennifer Fulton of The Inquiring Quilter.
The prize entry window goes from 12AM Eastern on October 10, 2017 until 11:59PM Eastern on October 23, 2017.
If you are just now joining us in the QAL, I have a quick links page to catch up on the blocks in this QAL and my associated blog posts. You can also get to that page at any time by clicking the I Wish You a Merry QAL button on the right sidebar.
The sponsors for the grand prize have also been announced. In order to be eligible for the grand prize, you must make a quilt top using all twelve of the QAL blocks by January 16th, 2018. Please note that all patterns are only free until the end of the QAL.
Happy Sewing! I can’t wait to see your blocks!

Love this version. I am so enjoying watching all the hosts and their work! Can’t believe we are on the second half!
Thanks Kathleen – I know right?! this is gone by sooo quickly!
The contrast between the red grunge and the accent fabric creates such a great texture.
Thanks Sandy! I’m hoping my accent fabrics pull the whole quilt together in the end… fingers crossed!
