The Great Outdoors Blog Hop + Giveaway!

All of the Island Batik Ambassadors are participating in a 5-week blog hop!  Today is Day 3 and my day to share my project from my "SURPRISE" fabrics from our first ambassador box that we received in February!  You can check out my unboxing video here.

My surprise fabric line is Canterbury Manor!  This is such a beautiful bright rainbow fabric line!  I love color so much and I was able to incorporate ALL prints into my quilt project.

The best thing I find about the great outdoors is the amazing view of all the stars at night.  I used my July Monthly Color Challenge block and made 9 blocks with black as my background color to act like the night sky.  Each of the stars is made of 2 different prints.  The diamonds are made from a multicolored print and I waited to get all of the bits together to make sure the multicolor was spread out across the quilt.

I ended up adding a 2 inch border around the entire outside of the quilt to get the 20th fabric of the line into the quilt.

For my batting, I used a cotton wool blend from the Hobbs Tuscany collection.  The batting was light and easy to work with.  I spray basted the quilt and picked a rainbow of different Aurifil thread for quilting.  This quilt has so many color changes and I love it!  I used my walking foot to outline each of the stars and draw stars inside the diamonds.

The quilt finished at 40" square. I love how bright this quilt turned out and it's a great baby quilt size!

So what's a blog hop without a giveaway?!

I am giving away four (4) 5" rolls of Island Batik fabric.  Each roll contains 4 different fabrics that are 5" by width of fabric. The giveaway is open to US residents only.  The giveaway is open until the end of the blog hop at 12am Central Daylight Time on September 5, 2018.

I love the night sky also. My father moved us into my great-grandmother’s house when I was in 4th grade. It was an old farmhouse out in the country that has been in the family for over 100-years. My great-grandmother had be the local school district’s Home Economics teacher; she made dresses for me as I was growing up. All the stars that you could see at the Yellow House with the outside lights turned out was my favorite.

My favorite thing about outdoors is seeing wildlife. I try to get pictures of the things I see, but they are never as fabulous as seeing them for real.

Hi Sherry! Wow, I love this quilt. The stars surrounded by the black fabric is a great representation of the night sky. If I were receiving this quilt for my baby I would be thrilled beyond belief. Just a fabulous finish! Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  11. Beth T. says:

I live in the country, and since we moved here, I love the rhythms of nature–the seasons, the changing vibes from morning to night, the way a stream is strong in winter and disappears in summer. It makes me more observant, and more connected to what is happening around me, and reminds me that so much more is happening than I am aware of, always.

  12. Thunder says:

My favorites of the great outdoors… Flowers, trees, all the wonderful critters. Nature itself. Night sky’s are great too, and a stormy sky.
